Panasonic to Build New Megtron Circuit Board Material Production Line in China
On March 4th, Panasonic Industrial announced an additional investment of approximately 7.5 billion yen (currently about 329 million RMB) in Panasonic Industrial Components & Materials (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. to establish a new production line for Megtron multilayer circuit board materials.
According to reports, this type of material is widely used in high-speed network systems such as AI servers. The Guangzhou plant currently produces products ranging from Megtron6 to Megtron8. Among them, Megtron6 is an early entrant in high-performance multilayer circuit board materials for ICT infrastructure equipment. Megtron8 meets the high-speed data transmission demands required by AI servers. In the future, the Guangzhou plant will assume a more significant role, becoming a key base for producing critical materials for next-generation AI servers. It is understood that the new production line in Guangzhou will primarily serve PCB customers in China. Panasonic mentioned in its press release that the Chinese market is vast with significant long-term growth potential. The new line is expected to begin trial production in April 2027 and achieve mass production within the same fiscal year. With the continued development and accelerated adoption of generative AI, demand for ICT infrastructure like AI servers is expanding, and data processing scale is projected to grow exponentially. This trend increases the need for servers, switches, and routers, while also imposing higher requirements on circuit board materials, demanding lower transmission loss to ensure stable and efficient signal transmission. Panasonic Industrial stated that it will leverage its proprietary materials and processing technologies to continuously expand the global production capacity of the Megtron series circuit board materials. Over the next five years, the company plans to double the total production capacity of the Megtron series to support the development of the ICT infrastructure market, including AI servers, and to drive the continuous advancement of AI technology. |
